BROWN TANGLE – A BRITISH ASIAN CROSS-ARTS FESTIVAL
FRI 25 – SAT 26 OCT

This October, young British Asian artists take over Rich Mix!
Co-Artistic Directors Shane Shambhu and Nina Head, along with guest curator Parbati Chaudhury, arrange this first-of-a-kind festival which sees young British Asian artists take over Rich Mix to explore fresh perspectives on South Asia’s artistic legacy. The weekend includes artist workshops exploring process, collaboration and interdisciplinarity and a retrospective programme featuring screendance by Shobana Jeyasingh Dance and re-stagings from Nina Rajarani MBE and Pushkala Gopal. Evening events include an eclectic cabaret, curated and compèred by Raheem Mir, and an open-stage night bringing together South Asian dance and spoken word, presented with Apples & Snakes.

Featuring: Beau Jangle, Ben Henry Edwards, Eva Recacha, Jaspreet Kaur, Jay Jay Revlon, Kaajel Patel’s Nimbooda Panto, Kamala Devam, Kirsten Newell, Rhiannon Faith, Shivangee Agrawal, Sonia Chandaria, Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan and Tara Rajkumar OAM. Plus more artists to be announced.

In this workshop you will unearth new dance and movement aesthetics and unwind your creativity through task-based exercises that challenge your choreographic process and explore methods of devising and composing work.

In celebration of Shobana Jeyasingh Dance’s 30th Anniversary, Akademi hosts a free screening of their productions Faultline and Duets with Automobiles.
